Every year the Kiwanis Club in each state offers the "Hope of America" award to about 10% of each 6th grade class. Jackson won it! It was voted on by the 6th grade teachers.
The award reads, "Presented with honor to Jackson Hall who has demonstrated during this school year the capacity for leadership, the ethical and moral character and the outstanding academic accomplishment which represent the Hope of America."
His teacher Mrs. Spencer described this award as "given to someone who looks for ways to help in the classroom, help the teacher, help other students. The one who helps pick up a fellow student's dropped papers etc." There was much more said, but I can't remember it all. She did say, that if you receive this award, keep it handy and put it with your paperwork when you are applying for scholarships and things because it carries a lot of weight.
None of the kids (or parents) at the awards ceremony knew who would be receiving it. As his teacher was describing the award my heart started to pound and I thought, "This sounds a lot like Jackson!" So halfway through her 5 minute speech I turned on my camcorder. So glad I did, I caught the announcement of his name.
One of the proudest moments of my life! Jackson's too I suppose!
